About the role
B&G Industrial Services Ltd. is hiring an experienced Welder-Fitter to join our steel manufacturing and industrial fabrication team in Thornloe, ON. This is a hands-on industrial role involving structural welding, fabrication, repair and maintenance of steel components and industrial equipment in a fast-paced shop environment.

Job description
You will be responsible for reading and interpreting blueprints and/or welding process specifications to fit and weld metal assemblies and join them together in a variety of scenarios while following all safety policies. You will use the appropriate tools for the task (e.g. igniting the torch, clamping down pieces) and joining and lining up all pieces of the project as specified.
Key responsibilities
- Read blueprints and drawings and take measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determine the appropriate equipment and welding method based on requirements
- Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment
- Set up components for welding according to specifications
- Choose the appropriate tools for the task
- Operate angle grinders and other tools to prepare the parts to be welded
- Align components using calipers, rulers, etc. and clamp pieces
- Weld components in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
- Follow all health and safety procedures and identify hazards or potential hazards
- Other job duties as required
Requirements
- Metal Fabricator (Fitter), 437A
- CWB certification or equivalent welding qualification (asset or required depending on role)
- Experience in an industrial, fabrication, mill, or structural welding environment
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
- Strong understanding of welding codes and safety standards
- Physically capable of performing heavy industrial work
- Valid driver’s license (asset for site travel roles)

- Industrial fabrication shop setting
- Exposure to noise, heat, dust and steel fabrication equipment
- Occasional overtime and emergency call-ins may be required
